What are Implants overdentures?

An implant overdenture is a detachable prosthesis that is secured in place by implants inserted into your jawbone. The denture is kept firmly in your mouth by snapping onto the implants, but you may take them out as needed. To secure and hold the denture in place, the denture-type prosthesis fits "over" the implants.

Implant overdentures "snap" onto titanium posts that have been surgically inserted into your jawbone. Compared to standard dentures, they provide more stability.

How They Operate

Conventional dentures use sticky glues or suction to keep in place while resting on your gums. Slipping may result from this. Implant overdentures are directly attached to implants. Consider a button for a jacket. The button on the jacket is the implant. There is a corresponding "snap" on the bottom of the denture. All you have to do is press the denture in until you hear or feel a click.

The Process

Consultation & 3D Scan

To determine if you are a candidate for two, three, or four implants, we examine your bone, bite, and general health.

Implant Placement

Implants are inserted, often in conjunction with a temporary denture. Many individuals get their teeth the same day.

Healing Period

Your implants become part of the bone. To reduce strain on the implants, your denture is soft lined during this period.

Final Snap-On Denture

We make your denture snap onto the implants when the healing process is over.

Option 1: We can alter your existing denture by directly inserting the locating housings in your existing denture, provided it fits well and looks good.

Option 2: We can create a denture especially for implant support if you would rather have a new one. Additionally, we can minimize or eliminate most of the bulky palate in upper instances at this time, allowing you to talk more naturally and taste food. You depart with a firmer "snap" and a snug fit.

Type of Solutions

Gum Supported, Implant-Retained

With this method, implants inserted into your upper and/or lower jaw hold the overdenture in place while it sits directly on your gums. The overdenture is detachable and "snaps" onto the implants. Compared to not having implants, this option makes your dentures more stable while chewing. For cleaning and routine maintenance visits, the denture is simple to remove. The amount of retention will depend on the number of implants placed. Typically, 2 or more in the lower and 4 or more in the upper. The more implants used, the more retention and the less reliance on gum support.

Advantages to Implant Overdentures

Powerful Bite Support

Giving you a powerful bite is one of the main benefits of overdentures over regular dentures. Some even contend that it is just as robust as actual teeth, something that conventional dentures cannot match. Overdentures won't place you under any dietary restrictions, but traditional dentures frequently make it difficult to eat chewy or hard foods.

Fewer Food Restrictions

You won't have to worry about wanting to take them out every five minutes because they are also incredibly comfortable. Additionally, the superior fit lessens the likelihood of mouth sores and overall discomfort, giving the patient a better experience.

Comfortable, Secure Fit

They are also more comfortable to wear than conventional dentures because they are attached securely to the implants. They can, however, be removed, which makes it very easy to maintain, including cleaning the prosthesis, cleaning the implants, and giving the gums a break. Also, because they are removable, it is very easy to reline them for a better fit when needed, or even repair a tooth if it breaks. In the end, a lot of patients discover that these more sophisticated dentures enhance their wellness and quality of life. Patients may consume a greater variety of meals and can speak easier.

Confidence & Quality of Life

Additionally, patients don't have to worry about the embarrassing problem of their dentures coming loose at the wrong time thanks to implant supported overdentures. They may feel better and more self-assured about their teeth as a result.
